Roger M. Rickert was born in Huntington, Indiana on August 4, 1936. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and thereafter worked for five years in the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner in the digital data processing arts. While a Patent Examiner, he attended American University and earned his J.D. degree. He then obtained a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Purdue University and became registered as a Professional Engineer in Indiana (Reg No. PE60015100). He has served as an associate faculty member in the Mathematics Department at the Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne Campus from 1978 to 1999. He has been in private practice as a Patent and Trademark Lawyer in Indiana since 1968.
