Joseph S. Edelstein
Position: Patent Attorney
Joseph S. Edelstein was born in Alton, Illinois on July 17, 1986. Joe obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Juris Doctorate degree from Indiana University Bloomington.
Joe’s experience working in patent law began with an internship in Cook Medical’s patent office during the summer of 2010. Since that time, he has helped clients protect their intellectual property in a wide variety of industries including medical implants, surgical instruments, injection devices, agricultural equipment, consumer electronics, glass products, fluid seals, chemical detectors, and others.
Joe has significant experience representing clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and working with counsel in foreign jurisdictions to secure patent rights. Clients ranging from solo inventors to Fortune 100 companies have benefitted from Joe’s ability to quickly identify the inventors’ contributions to the art and obtain patents broadly protecting those contributions. Joe also regularly advises clients on patent enforcement issues and assists clients with building and managing patent portfolios.
Joe’s passion for patent law extends into classrooms and boardrooms, where he is frequently invited to speak with audiences on various patent law topics. Whether the topic is patent law basics for science and engineering students or current legal developments for seasoned patent practitioners, Joe enjoys simplifying complex patent topics to provide his audience a greater understanding of patents.
